GHBC Purpose and Covenant

   PURPOSE

Our purpose is to implement THE GREAT COMMISSION  here and around the world.

                                            We will:

Magnify the name of God through worship,

                                            Multiply the Kingdom through evangelism,

                                            Make disciples through education,

Mold the church family through fellowship and

Model the great commission through missions.

                                                                       CHURCH COVENANT

We adopt the following covenant of guidance for our spiritual walk:

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God.

We believe the Spirit of God led us to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior.

We are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This spiritual unity leads us to joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, we will:

Walk together in Christian love while striving for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness and comfort.

Promote the prosperity and spirituality of the church here, and sustain its worship, ordinances and teachings.

Contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, expense of the church, relief of the poor, and spread of the gospel through all nations.

Maintain family and private devotions, and provide a religious education for our children.

Seek the salvation of our family and friends. Live carefully in the world. Be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our conduct.

Avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger. Do nothing that would make another stumble or fall into sin. Be zealous to advance the Kingdom of our Savior.

Watch over one another in Christian love, remember each other in prayer, and aid each other in sickness and distress.

Cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech.

Be slow to take offense, ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the teachings of our Savior, we will secure it without delay.

When we move to another place we will unite with another church as soon as possible.”

                                                                              CHARACTER

This church shall be governed by the membership at large. All action for which the church shall be held responsible   will be presented to the church for its decision prior to action. A simple majority shall be necessary for any action unless otherwise provided for in the Bylaws. Final authority in all matters pertaining to the church shall rest with the membership in keeping with the Bylaws. The character of this church shall be that of a cooperative, local, autonomous body.

                                                                               AFFILIATION

We are affiliated with and will cooperate with the Savannah River Baptist Association, the South Carolina Baptist Convention,      the Southern Baptist Convention, and the Baptist World Alliance, as long as we feel that those organizations have as their sole purpose    the promotion and support of the Cooperative Program, missions, education and benevolence, and whose approach to ministry and polity are in keeping with the character and spirit of Grays Hill Baptist Church. We will participate, at our pleasure, in the deliberative assemblies of those bodies through duly-elected messengers. Grays Hill Baptist Church may also affiliate with any other Christian body it deems appropriate in the propagation of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God to the world. This may be done by a majority vote of the church in conference after a thorough study by the Deacons and Trustees and after the membership is notified by bulletins and other means, at least one month prior to consideration at a duly constituted business meeting.
